"Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they've got ambition, and they've got talent, as well as just beauty. I'm so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. I'm so sick of it." These powerful words from Jo March in Little Women perfectly encapsulate the beauty of womanhood and the flaws in society's treatment towards women. Every March, we commemorate the significance of women in our society and address the persistent misconception that women should conform to socially constructed standards.
Aligned with this year's theme, "WE for Gender Equality and an Inclusive Society," this celebration serves as a stark reminder that women are more than the roles society has traditionally assigned to them. Women can be any version of themselves they aspire to be, whether as thinkers, leaders, or visionaries, and they deserve to be seen beyond the expectations placed upon them. True gender equality means breaking the chains that bind women's potential and creating an environment where everyone, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to thrive.
An inclusive society does not confine individuals to outdated norms but instead values them for their abilities, aspirations, and contributions. This Women's Month, we must aspire to go beyond mere recognition and actively work towards a future where every voice is heard, every right is protected, and every dream is supported. By working together, we can create a world where people are defined not by gender, but by their limitless potential.
